Tributyrin

Tributyrin

Tributyrin is a precursor ester of three butyrate molecules on glycerol. After oral intake, intestinal lipolysis releases butyrate, used to deliver short-chain fatty acids farther down the colon.

Also known asglyceryl tributyrate

Primary

Delivers butyrate to the distal colon

The triglyceride backbone releases butyrate more slowly; only after lipolysis does the gut segment hand over short-chain fatty acids, so distal colon epithelium more readily gets fuel. People who want butyrate and care about odour and release site more often notice abdominal comfort after several continuous weeks.

Primary

Maintains mucosal energy supply

Released butyrate is still oxidised by colonocytes for energy, so mucosal turnover and barrier-protein synthesis more readily keep up. For people with too little fibre fermentation and low distal-colon fuel, this glyceride makes the same short-chain fatty acid path into a more stable oral precursor.

After several weeks of continued use, reassess how you feel and how well you tolerate it.

General wellnessTypical daily intake for general wellness: tributyrin often 200–500 mg
Specific needsTypical adult daily safety upper limit is about 1,000 mg; reduce the dose if bloating is marked, and do not exceed this on your own long term.

How oftenGenerally use daily as directed on the product label.

Cautions

Common side effects

· Mild gastrointestinal discomfort or an unfamiliar taste may occur.

Rare but important
