Bicarbonate / alkaline salt
Potassium bicarbonate carries bicarbonate and is often used for buffering or electrolytes. It supplies potassium while changing acid-base load—a different setting from a plain chloride salt.

Potassium bicarbonate is a source of potassium. High intracellular potassium keeps neuromuscular excitability. Food potassium should lead; supplement doses are capped, especially when kidney function is poor.

Potassium supplement doses are usually low; do not treat low blood potassium yourself with salt substitutes.

Cautions
People with kidney or heart disease, or who take ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium-sparing diuretics, should not self-start potassium.
High blood potassium can cause dangerous heart-rhythm problems.
