Primary

Live cells reach the colon and increase stool frequency

The most trials use long-term fermented-milk intake. After live cells pass gastric acid and bile they stimulate a motility reflex in the large intestine and raise weekly bowel frequency. For people with long-standing constipation, straining, or more than two days between stools, weekly frequency is the most directly countable marker. People who go more than two days between stools often notice a rise in frequency first.

Primary

Softens stools and reduces straining

Acid production changes colonic water and content viscosity, so stools are softer and less excessive straining is needed. A design of a fixed daily fermented-milk drink is the most common; what is felt is stool form and abdominal heaviness. After stools soften, time on the toilet and a pulling anal sensation usually fall together, and abdominal heaviness eases more readily.
