Valine breakdown yields succinyl-CoA, which can enter gluconeogenesis; among the three branched-chain amino acids this one leans glucogenic. During long exercise, muscle oxidizes it to spare glycogen. Eggs, dairy, and meat contain all three branched chains; the body cannot make them.
Maintains myelin-related nerve proteins
Valine appears among the branched-chain residues of myelin-related proteins; the nervous system needs an adequate supply to maintain itself. It shares the same ketoacid dehydrogenase set with the other two branched chains; when it is short, nitrogen balance and coordinated movement are affected first.
