Gamma-Tocotrienol

Gamma-Tocotrienol

γ‑Tocotrienol is the most abundant member of the palm-oil tocotrienol spectrum. The side chain is unsaturated. Lipid and membrane research more often takes it as the representative. Red palm and rice-bran oils are the main dietary entries.

Primary

Interrupts lipid peroxidation

Red palm oil and rice-bran oil have more γ-tocotrienol than other homologs. The unsaturated tail lets the molecule move more readily in the lipid bilayer while the phenolic hydroxyl breaks peroxidation. Southeast Asian palm cooking is the dietary door; supplemental extracts also usually make it the main body of the spectrum.

Primary

Supports blood-lipid metabolism

Some lipid-metabolism cell studies use γ-tocotrienol to watch cholesterol-synthesis paths. Side-chain double bonds plus γ's ring-methyl pattern give a different distribution from saturated-side-chain γ-tocopherol; Southeast Asian palm diets already eat this main form.

Dry skin

Red palm oil and rice-bran oil have more γ-tocotrienol than other homologs. People whose calves or cheeks feel tight and flaky more often notice moisture and less itch after several continuous weeks.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease

Red palm oil and rice-bran oil have more γ-tocotrienol than other homologs. People whose imaging or enzyme markers suggest fatty liver and who feel fullness under the right ribs more often notice abdominal feel and labs after several continuous weeks.
